What is the best class to try if I am a COMPLETE beginner?
Being new at ANYTHING can be a bit intimidating. We want you to start where you are comfortable. Perhaps Gentle Yoga, Yoga Basics, or Slow Flow - would be your best options. However, with a quick phone call or email we may be able to better assist you. Contact us with your questions and we will get your yoga journey started on the right foot. :)
What do I need to bring to class?
You may want to bring a mat, water, and an open heart and mind. If you don’t have a yoga mat, no problem. We have extra yoga mats available for you to borrow. We also provide yoga blocks, bolsters, and blankets for your use during class.
If this is your first class, be sure to print, complete and bring with you the Sift Yoga Release Form.
What should I wear?
You should wear clothing that you feel comfortable in, and that allows you to move freely. Please note shoes are not worn during class, we provide cubbies for your belongings.
Will I sweat in class?
No, most likely you not will sweat - though you may glow in the Yoga Flow Classes! If you are concerned with sweating feel free to bring a small towel to class.
What should I expect from the Adult Classes at Sift?
Sift offers a welcoming atmosphere to all levels. We know everyone is a beginner at some point, and we want you to find out how yoga can help you SIFT through your aches and pains, stresses and anxiety, and encourage a calm mind.
We offer a small variety of classes. Please see our list of class descriptions to find a class that is most suitable to your comfort level, ability, and your fitness/meditative goals. Everybody comes to the mat with different things going on in their bodies. Therefore, we offer modifications for each pose to allow every student the opportunity to be able to fully engage in the pose in his or her own way. There is no right or wrong way of doing yoga!
What if I’m late to class? or need to leave early?
Please try to arrive at least five minutes prior to the start of class. If you arrive late, please try to be courteous as you find a space to join the group. If you arrive at the studio and the doors are locked, please knock and we will open the door for you. (Doors will lock 15 minutes after the start of class - to minimize distractions and provide a safe environment for students and instructors).
If you need to leave early, please set up near the door and make sure the instructor is aware that you need to depart before the conclusion of class. Feel free to leave your props on the floor and leave quietly (we will clean them up for you in order to cause less of a distraction).
What if I have an injury?
If you have any physical injuries, please let the Sift Yoga instructor know prior to class so we can make sure that you are safe in your practice. Please remember you are in charge of your own body, the cues of each instructor are suggestions. It is important that you listen to your own body. Walls or chairs are available for balance or assistance in the Gentle Yoga Classes.
Do parents stay during SPECIAL Youth Yoga Events?
Some parents like to stay during Youth Events, however you are NOT required! Our location is great for going out to eat, shopping, or just taking a quiet moment at a local coffee shop. We encourage you to use the time during the event to RECHARGE! We know that all parents deserve a break!
What happens in a Family Yoga Class? Do my kids need to be able to be quiet :) ?
Family Yoga is intended to be a fun activity to do with your children. Depending on the median age of our group the poses will be done in a playful atmosphere, with breaks for yoga games mixed in. We will have a story each class with poses to match. This is a perfect activity for families with children 3-12. If your child is shy and would rather watch, that is perfectly fine! We encourage each family to visit a class a couple times, so that all children become familiar with the routine and the instructor. You will be surprised what they take home, even if they are a little anxious in class! In each family class we BREATHE, MOVE, and RELAX. The length on Family Yoga classes are 45 minutes. The entire family joins the class for a flat rate $12 per family.
What is your Weather Class Cancellation Policy?
*Weather Cancellation Policy: As a general rule of thumb, we will follow the Warrick County School Corporation. If they cancel school please check out website or call our studio at 812-518-0638. All instructors reserve the right to cancel weekend or evening classes, if the safety of the students is a concern. Those announcements will be on the Facebook Page or on the Schedule page of the Website!
