Each week, in my live classes or with private clients, take a few moments to break down a certain pose, show different versions or modifications and help my students find "their yoga". This week's play is with side planks. We tried a few with the wall 1st to get arm alignment, then hit the floor. Thanks to Sarah Loehr for the sneaky photos 😉
Side Plank Benefits:
-Strengthens the arms, belly, and legs
-Stretches and strengthens the wrists
-Stretches the backs of the legs (in the full version described below)
Improves sense of balance
Side plank used to be a major weakness for me. After the birth of my sweet little ones my abdominal muscles were not in good shape. As you could imagined, they had been stretched and re-positioned in a way that made anything abdominal very difficult for me. But over time, with attention and care, I have made it to a place where side planks are now one of my favorite poses! Who would've thought something that I feared, that I was so worried would hurt my back, has become something that I love.
Join me in this flow today, exploring side planks!
(A short VIDEO you can do at home if you can not join me for a live class)
